High levels of cholesterol in the blood are counterproductive. Fats form a category of lipids that are distinguished from others by their chemical structure and physical properties.

This category of molecules is important to many life forms and serves both structural and metabolic functions. Fats make up a very important part of the diet of most human beings.

However, the fats that we consume daily accumulate, sometimes these accumulations can lead to severe illness and disease.

In this article you will find some herbal teas to help reduce cholesterol.

What is cholesterol?

Cholesterol, according to this information obtained from the United States National Library of Medicine, is the fat present in tissues and blood plasma, and is found in  organs such as:

  • Liver
  • Pancreas
  • Brain
  • Spinal cord

At normal levels, cholesterol is natural and beneficial for the body, since it is responsible for creating the plastic membrane that regulates the entry and exit of substances into cells.

The problem appears when the concentrations are high, becoming harmful to health. Indeed, in high concentrations, fat adheres to the walls of the arteries, preventing normal blood circulation, and can cause heart disease.

In this sense, we must know that the risks increase with age and that cholesterol has no symptoms (they are only evidenced with a complete blood test).
